Welcome
Learning to make a difference
Welcome to Sidcot, an independent day and boarding school which encourages children to make a difference in the world through teaching them to live their lives adventurously, to question and to take action. We celebrate individuality and challenge our students to think with greater depth to reach a better understanding of themselves in relation to the world we live in.
As a school that accepts children with wide ranging strengths and abilities, we are very proud that we achieve some of the strongest exam results in the South West and particularly stand out in Maths, Science and the Arts. The introduction of the IB to our Sixth Form curriculum in 2007 supports our core educational aim of delivering engaging, progressive education, and an aim that has driven our teaching since the foundation of Quaker education here in 1699.
Sidcot excels at building students’ self esteem which we believe in turn nurtures a love of learning. Those who do well here believe in our values and embrace the opportunities available to them. As an all-through, co-educational school, your child (or children) will benefit from a carefully planned curriculum, that is co-ordinated and integrated at key learning stages. They can also settle without the anxiety and disruption of changing schools at key points in their education, enabling them to concentrate on their studies and form long lasting friendships. Our students choose a wide range of occupations and nearly all go on to study at University, but crucially, we expect them to leave us as confident individuals with open minds and hearts, able to make a difference on whichever path they choose.
We hope you enjoy exploring our website, it will give you a taste of what Sidcot has to offer, but the real test is in the visit, so do come and see the school for yourself and learn more about our unique community and why our children are so happy here.
The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent. The emphasis placed on this element in the school’s aims is reflected in practice and fully realised in the pupils’ behaviour and thinking. Values of truth, respect, openness and tolerance characterise their outlook, demonstrated in their conversations with each other and with adults and in their readiness to instigate action to address perceived injustice, both in local and international settings. They show strong self-esteem in their confident participation in activities, particularly those which offer physical or academic challenge. Their strong spiritual development is evident in the calm of
meetings for worship, always led by older senior school pupils. Younger pupils in the senior school showed a good appreciation of the ideals of Quakerism when discussing their response to the school’s teaching.- ISI Inspection 2011.
