Learning to make a difference

Sidcot values the bonds that make it a real community. It is a fairly small school – about 400 in the Senior school and 100 in the Junior school – with small teaching groups and family-orientated boarding houses . We have put deliberate limits on our size to preserve the strong relationships between our community and ethos of interdependence.

With a staff ratio of one teacher to every ten students and teaching groups from around twelve to twenty, children can receive individual attention from their teachers.  We offer academic excellence with outstanding results and are the only non-selective school in the top 10 for Bristol and Somerset for GCSEs, A Levels and the IB Diploma.   Highly qualified and committed teachers are carefully selected to make the curriculum accessible to all Sidcot’s students, whatever their background. The human scale of the school means that all our students have the opportunity to develop their individual talents and fields of interest.

In the Junior school, small classes and excellent pastoral skills ensure that children acquire a solid foundation of knowledge of the core curriculum. French is taught from Reception, and the Juniors benefit from the Senior school’s excellent specialist facilities.

Developing confidence, curiosity, excitement and independence are our main aims.

In the Senior school, the curriculum broadens out in Years 7, 8 and 9 (ages 11 to 13) so that by the time students come to choose their GCSE options, they will have acquired a wide range of knowledge and understanding.

Developing knowledge, understanding and a life-long love of learning through an engaging and inspiring education are our aims.

In Years 10 and 11 each student is expected to prepare for at least nine GCSE subjects. Students are fully supported with careers advice and gain valuable experience through work placements. through

Developing intellect, interest and original thought by encouraging individuals to challenge themselves and take responsibility for independent and collective study.

Entry to the Sixth Form depends on both academic and social progress.  Those who continue at Sidcot are able to take AS and A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.  Almost all students go on to degree courses at universities and other colleges across the world.

Developing courage, integrity and maturity by enabling students to take action and responsibilty for their immediate and global environment.
