Sidcot Arts Centre is delighted to announce its hosting of a forthcoming broad and informative Printmaking exhibition that promises to be both enlightening and exciting.

This November brings together for the first time five Printmakers all based in the Bristol and Somerset areas. This alliance will showcase some of the most innovative artworks from their respective portfolios. This exhibition will demonstrate each artist’s individual approach to their particular working practice.

Liz Bird and Gail Mason (members of Spike Print Studio in Bristol), Bronwen Bradshaw, Pennie Elfick and Tony Martin (members of Somerset Printmakers and Fingerprint) will demonstrate original printmaking’s ability to convey a myriad of aesthetic concerns – the private and the public, the emotional and the conceptual, the figurative and the abstract all via a multiplicity of traditional and contemporary methodologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to show how much scope and diversity there is in Contemporary Printmaking. The spectrum of Printmaking encompasses etching, relief prints such as wood and lino cuts, silkscreen and collagraph, as well as surprising excursions into the fields of installation, video demonstrations, sound, digital imaging and 3D.  The public is often confused by the term “original print” which is a work of art created and printed by hand either by the artist or a Master Printmaker. Giclee prints are reproductions and are in essence posters and have little in common with an original print.

Also on show will be a selection of print-works by Sidcot School Art Students.

There will be a chance to meet the artists and enjoy a conducted tour of the show on its opening day.
