Science

The Sidcot Science Department is fortunate to have both experienced specialist staff and well-equipped laboratories. The entrance area has a lively set of displays which are regularly updated with pupils’ work and provide stimulus for those waiting for lessons.
The five laboratories are spacious and provide a pleasant setting for teaching and practical work. The small classes mean that pupils can carry out experiments individually or in pairs if a second pair of hands is needed. Pupils enjoy their lessons in the department and a sense of enquiry is encouraged as well as awareness of the relevance of science to modern life and its impact on the environment. Sidcot has always approached Science teaching with the emphasis on experimentation and student involvement.
Bevan Lean, Head of Sidcot from 1902 to 1930 and a great Science teacher, wrote a text book that in concept would be completely up-to-date today.
At examination level the results for the three Sciences at Sidcot are outstanding.
