Music Department

There is a particularly strong music tradition at Sidcot. More than half our pupils play at least one instrument and form a variety of musical combinations, from a full orchestra and chamber music group, to jazz and rock bands. There are also choirs and each term we have concerts of a very high standard. The Music Department has recently undertaken musical tours to Denmark, Prague and Italy.
As well as two experienced full time music teachers, we are also fortunate to have a number of professional and experienced visiting instrumental teachers offering private tuition during the school day. Alongside traditional classical instruments and more modern electric instruments, this includes a DJ Academy where budding DJ’s can strut their stuff and organise school discos, meanwhile learning to use up-to-date sound equipment and lighting.
Small classes at Sidcot mean that all pupils get the chance to use Music Technology, enabling them to learn about the Apple computer packages such as Siblius and Logic. Pupils can experiment with sounds whilst listening and learning about world music and the classics. A recent winner of the original music composition section at our annual music competition was a piece composed on an Apple computer using samples from George Bush's speeches.
