"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun." Mary Lou Cook

The Art department offers an exciting environment in which creativity can flourish. We aim to nurture individuality and encourage each to find his/her own spring of creativity.  We trust that some will develop a real and personal passion and all will benefit from and enjoy the opportunity for artistic exploration and self-expression.

In a media rich and increasingly visual world, art education is vital.

artMiddle school students have a weekly session of art and rotate through the three areas - ceramics and sculpture, painting and drawing, and photography, video, and computer art.  In the 5th and 6th form, Art is an optional but popular examination subject, with students given freedom to choose their own artistic route.

As well as timetabled lessons, all can participate in a wide range of structured activities, from art clubs for junior students, to weekly ceramics, photography, life-drawing and animation sessions. We also encourage the use of the department at any time, enjoying the creative buzz at break, lunch, after school and often in the evening and at weekends.

videoOccasional workshops and weekend activities are organised that draw on expertise outside the department and we run a full program of trips and visits to galleries and exhibitions.

The department is soon to be housed in a brand new purpose built creative arts block with specialist facilities for the very widest range of creative endeavour.

You can see further examples of the Sidcot students' artwork in the gallery.
