old school

Sidcot School was founded in 1699 by a group of local Quakers in order to provide an education for children of Quaker families. The School opened in a building on the site of the present School. The Society of Friends formally purchased the School in 1808 for the children of Friends “in low circumstances”.

old school2The School has been co-educational since its inception, and boys and girls have been taught in mixed classes since 1895. The oldest of the present range of School Buildings dates from 1838 and the campus has been continually developed and modernised since then. The Junior School was opened in 1990. Nearly 10% of the children in the School continue to come from Quaker families and we welcome pupils of many different faiths and backgrounds.
