SAES (overseas)
The aim of Sidcot Academic English School is to provide an intensive English language and GCSE foundation course to raise the level of achievement of non-native speakers of English so that they can join the Sixth Form at Sidcot School. The timetable comprises 50% English language and 50% GCSE subject tuition. There is also a fascinating cultural programme which is highly successful in developing students' understanding and awareness of modern life and traditions in the United Kingdom.
Pupils are admitted at any time during the academic year, with main entry points in September, January and April. At the end of the course, Sidcot students may gain certification within the internationally recognised Cambridge University EFL examination structure and at GCSE or IGCSE levels
We aim that all pupils will:
- Develop the speaking and listening skills to enable communication with peers, teachers and others in an English-speaking environment.
- Develop intellectually; increase personal awareness and international understanding.
- Develop individual research skills and the ability to work as a team through project work and class work.
- Develop all skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), supported by vocabulary development and grammar to build a strong foundation in the language appropriate for the Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate in English (FCE), and IGCSE English as a Second Language exams.
- Become independent learners.
- Be prepared to access the mainstream curriculum at Sidcot School by improving language, study and time management skills.
- Develop note taking, revision and exam techniques.
- Acquire a cultural understanding of Britain and the British educational system.
- Have the opportunity to become fully integrated into Sidcot School and live in Britain.
- Adapt to an often totally different system of education and achieve success.
